Tau Ceti Ventures LLC has initiated legal proceedings against Samsung in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The lawsuit alleges that Samsung infringed on ten of its patents pertaining to display brightness, screen burn-in prevention, battery life enhancement, and manufacturing cost reduction.

According to the complaint, Samsung utilized the disputed display technology in several of its products, including the Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Watch8, Galaxy Tab A9+, Galaxy Book4, and a variety of smart TVs and monitors. Tau Ceti claims Samsung was either aware of these patents or purposely chose to ignore them, a significant assertion that raises questions about the company's knowledge and intent.

In its lawsuit, Tau Ceti considers the infringement to be willful and is requesting the court to issue a ruling confirming the infringement and to award damages. Additionally, the company seeks to recover its legal fees. Notably, Tau Ceti has also filed similar lawsuits against LG and HP recently.

A patent troll is typically defined as an entity that acquires patents and subsequently sues other companies for infringement, without engaging in the production of products or services based on those patents.
