Samsung Unveils UFS 5.0 Storage: A Game Changer for Mobile Devices

Source: Date:

Samsung has announced the development of its next-generation UFS 5.0 storage standard, claiming it can deliver up to twice the performance of the current UFS 4.1 solution.

According to the company, this innovative storage technology will significantly reduce latency and enhance response times for on-device large language models (LLMs).

Samsung announces UFS 5.0 storage with a bandwidth of up to 10.8 GBps

The UFS 5.0 standard, built on JEDEC's latest embedded storage interface specification, offers sequential read speeds of up to 10.8GB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 9.8GB/s. Samsung claims this makes UFS 5.0 up to twice as fast as its predecessor, UFS 4.1.

In addition to increased speed, Samsung asserts that the new storage solution is over 40% more power-efficient than UFS 4.1, and the overall package is also 16.7% smaller.

Mass production of UFS 5.0 is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year, with the new storage solution offered in capacities of up to 1TB.
