Valve has officially announced that the Steam Machine and Steam Frame devices, first revealed in November of last year, are set to launch this summer. The announcement was made through a brief blog post focused on the Verified program.
The post primarily targets developers, confirming that both the Steam Machine and Steam Frame will be included in the Verified program. This program, which began with the Steam Deck, enables users to understand how games perform on the handheld device prior to purchase.
According to Valve, the criteria for the Verified badge for the Steam Machine will closely mirror those of the Steam Deck. Meanwhile, the Verified badge for the Steam Frame VR headset will signify a standalone experience that does not require external hardware.
Regrettably, no new details were provided beyond its summer release. Pricing remains undisclosed; however, industry insiders warn that potential buyers may be unhappy with the initial costs due to the rising prices of memory chips. Valve has already implemented a price increase, restocking the Steam Deck at $789 or $949 based on configuration—an increase of $300.
