Apple's WWDC 2026 kicks off later today. As a software-centric event, we're not anticipating new hardware, but there are several significant updates for Apple users. Here's what to look forward to.
You can watch the WWDC livestream here. The event begins at 10:00 AM PT (7:00 PM CEST).
Introducing the New and Smarter Siri
Siri, once a pioneer among digital assistants, has seen a decline in functionality. To address this, Apple is revamping Siri by collaborating with Nvidia and Google to integrate modern large language model (LLM) AI technology.
According to a detailed report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the revamped Siri will feature:
- Access to personal information from apps and Apple services
- Capability to compose emails integrating information from messages, contacts, notes, and calendar events
- Utilization of on-screen content for enhanced context
- Management of calendar events, including conflicting appointments
- A dedicated app offering more controls and Shortcut integration
- Ability to process complex requests requiring multiple steps
The enhanced Siri will leverage Google's Gemini AI model, operating primarily on Google's servers, although support for additional AI models like ChatGPT and Claude may also be available. Furthermore, an Extensions feature will act as a mini-app store, allowing users to extend Siri's functionality.

The new Siri app will include AI-powered writing tools and system-wide grammar checking. A fresh interface combining search and command functionalities will allow users to launch apps, ask questions, execute commands, and perform web searches with AI-generated summaries. Siri will synchronize chat history across iPhones, iPads, and Macs, and support both written and voice commands.
It’s worth noting that the new Siri may roll out in phases, with a beta version available on a waitlist basis for early adopters.
Expanded AI Features
While Siri takes center stage, Apple will also introduce a general overhaul of its AI systems. The new CoreAI framework will enable app developers to integrate Siri into their applications and support AI agents.
Additionally, Apple is unveiling new AI-driven image editing tools that will perform tasks such as object removal, quality enhancement, reframing images using depth data, and expanding photos (“uncropping”) via natural language inputs.
Moreover, Apple has reportedly developed features ranging from AI-generated wallpapers to automatic suggestions for Genmojis, with support for additional AI image generation services.
Performance Enhancements
The latest OS versions are anticipated to deliver increased performance and extended battery life, along with enhanced security and improved reliability with fewer bugs.
Refined User Interface
At last year’s WWDC, Apple introduced a new design language that unified its platforms, although some elements, like the Liquid Glass effect, received mixed reviews. Apple is addressing readability issues caused by transparent glass effects.

The new UI will also introduce support for Apple's first foldable device, the forthcoming iPhone Ultra. It remains to be seen how much of this will be showcased during the event.
Additional UI enhancements include:
- Customizable camera controls
- Updated keyboard and notification animations
- Undo/redo functionality on the home screen
- Refined search tabs for media and news apps
- Support for third-party AirPlay alternatives
- An updated settings screen for AirPods
- A revamped Find My interface
- A conditions widget in the Weather app displaying wind and rainfall on the main screen
Enhancements to Safari and Wallet
The Wallet app will offer options to add custom tickets, gift cards, and entry passes, enabling users to split bills with friends through Messages.
Safari will feature a new start page that streamlines access to bookmarks, favorites, reading lists, and browsing history. It will leverage AI to help users organize tabs by category.
watchOS 27
The latest OS for Apple Watches will include an updated Modular watch face displaying heart rate monitoring and fitness tracking. AI-enhanced health features and camera-based workout monitoring will also be introduced.
