Google Unveils Search Profiles to Enhance Content Discovery

Source: Date:
On Thursday, Google made a significant announcement by launching Search profiles, a feature designed to improve how users discover relevant and up-to-date information from their favorite publishers and creators. These profiles empower creators to showcase their latest articles, videos, and social media content, enhancing their visibility in Google Search.

Creating Your Own Search Profile

Publishers and creators now have the opportunity to establish their unique Search profiles. This feature allows users to follow specific sources, thereby increasing the likelihood of discovering their content through Discover—a personalized feed that curates news and articles tailored to individual interests.
You can easily access Discover via the Google app, located beneath the search bar, or by swiping right on your Android device’s home screen. For mobile users, a Search profile can be viewed by tapping the knowledge panel associated with a creator or publisher, which is situated at the top of the screen and provides insights about prominent individuals, locations, and entities.

Eligibility Requirements for Creating a Search Profile

To set up a Search profile, creators must meet specific criteria, including being at least 18 years old and adhering to Google's policy guidelines. Additionally, a minimum follower count is required on designated platforms:
  • YouTube: 100,000 subscribers
  • Instagram: 100,000 followers
  • X (formerly Twitter): 100,000 followers
  • TikTok: 300,000 followers

Checking for Your Existing Search Profile

Before setting up a new Search profile, it’s wise to verify if you already have one created by Google. Simply log in to your Google Account and visit profile.google.com/claim. Alternatively, you can search your name or content handle in the Google app. If a knowledge panel appears, navigate to More > View Search Profile.
