Introducing Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra: Power Meets Performance with Nvidia's RTX Spark

Microsoft has unveiled its most powerful laptop yet, the Surface Laptop Ultra, during Computex 2026. This new device is positioned to compete directly with the MacBook Pro.

Equipped with the newly introduced Nvidia RTX Spark system on a chip, the Surface Laptop Ultra features up to 20 ARM CPU cores and offers up to 128GB of LPDDR5X unified RAM. The integrated Blackwell GPU boasts 6,144 CUDA cores, which Microsoft associates with the performance of an Nvidia RTX 5070. The device is expected to have a power draw of up to 80W, classifying it as a low-powered variant of the 5070.

According to Microsoft, the thermal headroom of the Surface Laptop Ultra is 2.5 times greater than that of the Surface Laptop 7 15.

The laptop features a 15-inch MiniLED Ultra display with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits in HDR mode. Weighing approximately 2kg, it is comparable to the 16-inch MacBook Pro and is available in Black or Dark Silver.

Notably, the Surface Laptop Ultra includes Windows Hello face recognition technology and a replaceable SSD—a significant advantage over the MacBook.

When considering connectivity options, the Surface Laptop Ultra surpasses Apple's flagship model, offering three USB-C ports, a full-sized HDMI port, an SD card reader, a 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB-A port.

Impressive range of connectivity options

Set to launch alongside its new chipset this fall, Microsoft has yet to disclose pricing details. However, it is anticipated to start around the price point of the MacBook Pro 16, likely ranging from approximately $3,000 (~€3,000) to as much as $7,000 (~€8,000) for configurations with 128GB of RAM and 2TB to 4TB of storage.
