New Open-Source App Offers Oura Users Free Access to Health Data

Source: Date:

In a significant move for Oura Ring enthusiasts, a newly developed open-source application, known as the "Cracked Oura," has emerged as a game-changer by providing users free access to their health data without the need for a $70 annual subscription. This application utilizes data from Oura's website and presents it in a user-friendly visual format.

The Cracked Oura App: A New Frontier

The Oura Ring 5, which was recently announced, features a sleek design with added battery life and new functionalities, yet the company maintains a $70 yearly fee for full access to health insights. However, the Cracked Oura app provides an alternative. As Ahorinta, the developer, explained to 404Media, “Anyone can request the data from their website, and it comes with a bunch of CSVs that contain the data. My application just takes the CSVs and populates a database.”

Create Together: An Open-Source Project

“I hope that other people would also contribute to this project and fix my bugs and bad design choices that I have made,” Ahorinta added. This app not only serves Oura users but also sets a precedent for creating similar tools for other wearable devices with subscription models that restrict access to users' personal data.

Limitations of Cracked Oura

Though promising, the Cracked Oura app does have limitations, as some features present in the official app are still unavailable. Users may find certain functionalities missing as development continues.
