For users who frequently make VoIP calls via apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or Messenger on their Android devices, Google is set to enhance the default phone dialer app. This new feature will allow users to dial contacts directly from these applications without switching between apps.
Android Authority has confirmed that the feature is operational on a Pixel 9 running the latest Android Canary 2605 build. It was discovered within the settings of the Phone by Google app, the default dialer for Pixel devices.

One of the standout features is a new option that enables third-party applications to be included in your call history. Consequently, users will have the ability to dial their contacts directly from the default phone app, streamlining the calling process.
This functionality leverages Android's telecom framework, allowing third-party applications to log their calls in the native phone app, treating them like regular cellular calls. The feature is expected to be accessible on any device running Android 16.1 and later.
