Verizon Set to Unveil Key Update This Week

Source: Date:

Verizon customers are buzzing with anticipation as rumors circulate about a significant announcement expected from the carrier this week. With more than 20 years as a subscriber, I can't help but hope this news might pertain to improvements in Verizon's rewards program, which currently lags behind offerings from competitors like T-Mobile.

Rumors Sparked by a Verizon Representative

It seems a Verizon representative has kicked off speculation regarding an upcoming service launch. Observing T-Mobile's enticing rewards—such as complimentary MLB.TV subscriptions valued at $150 and perks like Netflix, AAA memberships, and T-Mobile Tuesdays—it's easy to question the value of a Verizon subscription. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Verizon's forthcoming announcement will significantly narrow the "rewards gap" with T-Mobile.

Interestingly, this buzz comes on the heels of Verizon's recent $5 price hike for its Unlimited Ultimate plan. With such a change already implemented, it's doubtful that this will be the nature of the big reveal.

Understanding the Price Adjustments

You might wonder how a 3-year locked plan could see a price increase. The recent $5 hike affects new subscribers or those switching to the Unlimited Ultimate plan, leaving existing customers from last year's launch unaffected.

Potential Improvements for the Welcome Plan

Speculation also suggests that Verizon could enhance the Welcome plan, its entry-level offering, by adding 50 GB of priority data each month. This adjustment would provide those on this plan—designed for budget-conscious consumers—greater stability. Furthermore, including uncapped mid-band 5G could enhance the customer experience, as this plan currently operates over the slower Nationwide 5G with instances of throttling.

It’s worth noting that unlike Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile provide access to faster mid-band services even to entry-level subscribers, although data speeds may be reduced during peak times.

Whatever the announcement entails, be assured we will report it to you right away. Stay tuned to PhoneArena for all updates.
