Display Week 2026 took place in Los Angeles last week, providing an opportunity for the world's leading display manufacturers to demonstrate their most cutting-edge technologies. TCL CSOT's presentation highlighted advancements in eXtended Reality (XR) applications.
Among the innovations showcased was a compact 0.28-inch display, designed to be integrated into lightweight smart glasses. This remarkable display utilizes a single-chip full-color Si-Micro LED panel, boasting the highest pixel density globally at an impressive 5,131 pixels per inch (ppi).
With a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels, this display may not be tailored for virtual reality (VR) use, but it is more than sufficient for information overlays in augmented reality (AR) glasses. To clarify, this Micro LED technology is built on a silicon substrate, making it a fully integrated single chip.
The World's Highest 5,131ppi Single-Chip Full-Color Si-Micro LED Display (0.28')Micro LED technology is akin to Organic LED (OLED) in that each pixel produces its own light, eliminating the need for a backlight as seen in LCDs. However, the challenge has been in densely packing the non-organic LEDs to achieve a high pixel density.
For more advanced XR devices, TCL CSOT also introduced the world's highest Real RGB G-OLED display, measuring 2.24 inches with a density of 1,700 ppi. This display features a resolution of 2,600 x 2,784 pixels, along with a 120Hz refresh rate and microsecond response times, providing deep contrast and low power consumption.
The “G” in “G-OLED” signifies the use of glass as the substrate in this display, meaning TCL has developed OLEDs atop a glass base. The term “Real RGB” indicates a full-stripe RGB approach, as opposed to the traditional sub-pixel layouts typically employed in OLEDs.
