Samsung Phases Out LPDDR4 RAM in Favor of LPDDR5 Production

Source: Date:

Reports from sources within the DRAM market indicate that Samsung is now accepting final orders for its LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X memory chips. Production is expected to continue until 2026 to meet all outstanding orders.

Samsung to retire old LPDDR4 RAM and move to LPDDR5 only production

Following the discontinuation of the LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X modules, Samsung plans to convert its existing production lines to LPDDR5 manufacturing by the first quarter of 2027. This strategic move aligns with the ongoing memory semiconductor supercycle and is expected to generate higher revenue for Samsung as DRAM prices continue to rise.

This transition also benefits consumers, as Samsung will incorporate the 50% faster LPDDR5 memory in its low-end and mid-range devices once LPDDR4 chip production ceases.
