Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2: A Thinner Design with Improved Hinge Technology

The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, launched last December and now discontinued in several markets, has a thickness of 3.9-4.2mm when unfolded and 12mm when folded. Recent rumors suggest that the second-generation model, possibly named the Galaxy Z TriFold 2, could be even thinner than its predecessor.

The reduced thickness of the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is attributed to a new hinge mechanism under development by Samsung. This innovative hinge is not exclusive to the TriFold 2; it is also expected to be utilized in upcoming single-fold Samsung smartphones.

It remains unclear if the single-fold Samsung smartphones anticipated to launch in the coming months will incorporate this new hinge technology or if it will debut in models launching next year. The TriFold 2 is rumored to be released around mid-2027, leading us to question whether the new hinge mechanism will be adopted for single-fold devices before the second-generation TriFold's introduction.
