Apple's eagerly anticipated entry into the foldable smartphone market, the iPhone Fold, is projected to significantly shake up the competition. According to a recent report from TrendForce, the iPhone Fold is expected to secure a remarkable 19.3% market share for foldable devices by 2026. This strong performance would position Apple as the third-largest player in the foldable market, following behind industry giants Huawei and Samsung.

Although Apple is entering this market later than its rivals, analysts at TrendForce predict that the existing demand among Apple customers for a foldable device, combined with the company's strong brand loyalty and ecosystem integration, will allow Apple to quickly ascend to a leadership role in the foldable smartphone sector.

One of the critical innovations in the iPhone Fold is aimed at reducing the visibility of the folding display crease. As per the report, advances in materials science will play a crucial role in this effort. Apple is expected to utilize cutting-edge techniques, including 3D printing and liquid metal for the hinge system, along with the integration of dual layers of ultra-thin glass (UTG). Additionally, the introduction of an optically clear adhesive (OCA) is seen as another vital element in enhancing the display's performance.

While OCA is already utilized by other manufacturers in their foldable devices, Apple aims to optimize its characteristics to better manage stress absorption and flexibility, reducing any concentrated stress in specific areas of the screen.

Strategically positioned between the various display layers, Apple's proprietary OCA will address three primary challenges associated with folding displays. It is designed to evenly distribute stress, ensuring that no single area of the screen bears the brunt of wear, while maintaining precise alignment and adhesion of the display layers. Furthermore, its clarity is intended to minimize light distortion and visible creasing on the display surface.
