With production delays mounting and development challenges surfacing, the timeline for the launch of this highly anticipated device is becoming increasingly uncertain.

iPhone Fold was originally set to commence production in June 2026, but this has now been moved to early August. The delays are reportedly due to unforeseen challenges during the Engineering Validation Test phase, which has proven to be more complex than Apple anticipated. However, some sources indicate that these issues might not impact the overall launch schedule.

Contradicting Rumors

iPhone Fold speculation has intensified, especially after Nikkei Asia suggested a potential premiere slip to 2027. Nevertheless, this was countered by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who maintains that the device will debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models or shortly thereafter. The final timeline remains uncertain as the device must pass through design validation testing before mass production can commence.

Any setbacks in mass production could result in notable shortages at launch, making it challenging for consumers to purchase the iPhone Fold initially. This scenario has previously occurred with other iPhone models, causing frustration among buyers.

Furthermore, rumors regarding Apple’s launch strategy for the iPhone Fold are mixed. Some sources suggest an initial inventory of around 11 million units, while others indicate a more conservative figure closer to 3 million.

Facing the Competition

With Huawei recently unveiling the Pura X Max and Samsung poised to launch the Galaxy Z Wide Fold, the foldable phone landscape is rapidly evolving. If Apple positions the iPhone Fold at around $2,000, it could find more traction compared to a retail price of $2,500.
