The Reddit user, known as ShelterNo7784, explained that their phone inadvertently connects to a Mexican cell tower while inside their home. After reaching out to Verizon for assistance, they were merely advised to reboot their phone to avoid roaming fees, which seems unreasonable for daily use.
The user has also disabled roaming on their device, but they cannot remove the Travel Plan feature from their Verizon account, leaving them with limited options. The choices presented include upgrading to a pricier plan with international calling or shutting off cellular data at home and relying solely on Wi-Fi.
"Getting the most basic unlimited plan would still be the same price, but I'd lose hotspot capabilities," they lament. "It feels like they just want me to pay more for Mexico and Canada coverage," the user expressed.

Other Verizon customers, like one residing in Detroit, have reported similar experiences. "As soon as I enter my condo, which is 25 stories up and faces Windsor, I receive a message saying I've entered Canada." This user, however, has adapted by utilizing Wi-Fi calling to ensure seamless communication without incurring roaming charges when their phone switches to foreign towers.
