Last month, Spotify launched its Prompted Playlist feature, offering users greater control over their playlist algorithms. Today, this feature is expanding its availability.
It is now rolling out to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada, following an initial launch in New Zealand. The feature remains in beta.
With the Prompted Playlist, users can describe their desired music preferences in their own words. Think of it as a ChatGPT (or Gemini, if you prefer) for music. Once you specify what you're in the mood for, a customized playlist is generated based on your input and listening history.
Spotify emphasizes that this feature enables users to "design discovery around exactly what you're in the mood for". You can modify your prompt at any time or start anew. Additionally, there is an option to refresh the generated playlist daily or weekly. If you ever question why a particular song was included, a brief one-line explanation will be provided.
To utilize this feature, navigate to Create in Spotify and select Prompted Playlist, then simply state your music preferences.
