MediaTek has launched its latest flagship mobile chipset, the Dimensity 9500s, following the introduction of the Dimensity 9500 SoC last September. In addition, the company has unveiled the mid-range Dimensity 8500 chipset.
Similar to its predecessor, the Dimensity 9500s features an 'All Big Core' architecture and is built on a 3nm manufacturing process.
MediaTek Dimensity 9500s
The Dimensity 9500s boasts a primary Arm Cortex-X925 Ultra core running at 3.73GHz, along with three Cortex-X4 premium cores and four Cortex-A720 performance cores. It is equipped with an Immortalis-G925 GPU that supports advanced ray tracing, adaptive game technology 3.0, and frame technology 3.0. Additionally, it includes a flagship NPU designed for generative reasoning and multi-modal model support.
The chipset features the MediaTek Imagiq image processor, enabling real-time motion tracking at up to 30fps, 8K 60fps full-focus video recording with Dolby Vision HDR, and integrated noise reduction. It supports camera sensors of up to 320 MP and WQHD+ displays with refresh rates of up to 180Hz.
Furthermore, the 9500s supports LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4 storage. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 7, dual SIM dual active 5G, GPS, BeiDou, Glonass, Galileo, NavIC, QZSS, Bluetooth 5.4, in addition to MediaTek UltraSave 4.0 power-saving technology.
MediaTek Dimensity 8500
The Dimensity 8500 also uses an 'All Big Core' CPU design but is built on a more efficient 4nm process. This chipset features eight Cortex-A725 cores, clocked at up to 3.4GHz, and includes a Mali-G720 GPU that offers a 25% performance improvement and 20% lower power consumption than its predecessor.
It supports LPDDR5X 4-channel RAM, UFS 4 storage, and integrates a MediaTek 8th-generation NPU (880), which is compatible with most large language and image generation models.
In terms of connectivity, the Dimensity 8500 offers Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, the same GPS satellite support found in the 9500s, dual SIM dual active 5G connectivity, and MediaTek UltraSave 3.0+.
For imaging capabilities, the SoC supports a maximum camera sensor of 320 MP, 4K 60fps video recording, and display resolutions up to WQHD+ at a 144Hz refresh rate.
