Dongfeng Nissan, the Chinese division of Nissan, has officially launched its latest model, the NX8. This mid-size SUV aims to revolutionize both charging technology and SUV design. While many automakers are still grappling with enhancing charging speeds, Nissan is taking the lead by integrating some of the latest advancements in the industry.
This new model accommodates five passengers, making it an ideal choice for modern families. With dimensions of 191.7 inches in length, 75.6 inches in width, and 66.1 inches in height, along with a wheelbase of 114.8 inches, the NX8 offers ample space for comfort during travels.

It features an impressive light bar on the front that spans 7.9 feet, referred to by Nissan as "star halo lights." Moreover, the flat logo illuminates and has been combined with state-of-the-art matrix headlights to enhance nighttime visibility. While we wish the NX8 would be available in Europe, that topic will be addressed later.
The rear design matches the front in aesthetics, employing 2064 tiny OLED units for its taillights, allowing drivers to customize the light patterns to give their SUV a unique look. Notably, the NX8 is equipped with a LiDAR unit on the roof, enhancing its ability to perceive its surroundings. This feature enables the vehicle to park itself, a great convenience for those who feel apprehensive about maneuvering into tight spots.

Instead of numerous buttons, it boasts two large displays—one for the driver and another specifically for the passenger. Additionally, a heads-up display projects vital information directly onto the windshield, giving the interior a futuristic feel akin to an aircraft cockpit, which is becoming the new norm for contemporary vehicles.
In terms of performance, prospective buyers can choose between several options. The "range-extended" variant utilizes a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine to recharge the battery while a single electric motor outputs 195 kW (241 horsepower) to drive the wheels. This version has an electric-only range of up to 115 miles thanks to its 77.4 kWh battery and a top speed of 112 mph. This model is particularly suited for those who may have concerns about battery life on long journeys.

These models feature motors delivering either 215 kW or 250 kW (up to 335 horsepower) and utilize an 800V high-voltage system with CATL-supplied LFP batteries. This setup allows for impressive "5C" fast charging capabilities. Depending on the chosen battery, the NX8 can achieve driving ranges between 351 miles and 404 miles on a single charge, positioning it as a strong competitor in the long-range electric SUV market.
As of now, Nissan has not provided additional details about the NX8's battery capacity, particularly for the B models, although the expected ranges imply substantial battery sizes. Unfortunately for global markets, Nissan does not plan to export the NX8 outside of Asia, leaving consumers with alternatives like the Ariya and the new Leaf, which may seem less appealing when compared to the NX8.
