Recent leaks suggest that Google may be gearing up to introduce a desktop mode feature for Android devices, similar to Samsung's DeX and Motorola's Smart Connect. While traces of this feature were initially discovered in 2023, it appears that Google is inching closer towards its official release.

Although the user interface still requires refinement, speculation points towards the possibility of the feature debuting with Android 17, possibly on the upcoming generation of Pixel devices. The anticipated "Android Desktop Mode" is expected to offer functionalities such as multitasking with resizable windows, desktop-like navigation elements, and a revamped app management system that mirrors traditional desktop operating systems.
Connecting the phone to an external display through the USB-C port will enable this feature, although wireless connectivity options may also be in the cards. Initially, it is anticipated that this feature will be exclusive to Pixel phones before potentially expanding to other Android devices in the future.
