Sonim Technologies has unveiled its latest innovation, the Sonim XP Pro Thermal, marking its foray into smartphones equipped with integrated thermal imaging capabilities. Designed specifically for professionals in various industries such as home maintenance, automotive repair, and inspection, this rugged device combines durability with advanced thermal technology.

Building on the foundation of the previously released XP Pro, the XP Pro Thermal features the powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, supported by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, with the option for microSD expansion. This model also retains the robust 6.58-inch FHD+ display, safeguarded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and houses a substantial 5,000mAh battery. Notably, the phone comes pre-loaded with Android 14.

The standout feature of the Sonim XP Pro Thermal is its cutting-edge FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal camera. This advanced imaging tool is paired with the Sonim IRIS app, enhancing functionality through compatibility with MyFLIR Pro and the FLIR Thermal Studio. Furthermore, the Sonim IRIS SDK allows developers to create custom applications tailored to harness the full potential of the thermal camera.

With this thermal imaging capability, users can effectively identify electrical problems such as overloaded circuits, examine home insulation levels, and detect hidden leaks behind walls. Sonim envisions the XP Pro Thermal being indispensable across various fields, including electrical maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, inspection and safety, energy and utilities, automotive services, construction, home improvement, agriculture, pest control, and emergency response.

The Sonim XP Pro Thermal is designed with professionals in mind.

This rugged phone adheres to Sonim’s Rugged Performance Standards, having undergone extensive testing for water and dust resistance, shock absorption, and extreme temperature endurance, with additional evaluations for MIL-STD-810H, IP68, and IPX9K currently underway at an independent lab.

Pre-orders for the Sonim XP Pro Thermal are anticipated to begin shortly, with an official launch scheduled for Europe and South Africa in Q2 of this year (April to June), before expanding to further regions later. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
