Tesla has officially rebranded its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) technology to Tesla Assisted Driving for the European market. This decision comes in response to concerns raised by German authorities who found the original nomenclature misleading. While the designation "Full Self-Driving" remains in use in the United States and other markets, the new title has been adopted on Tesla's European websites.
Germany's Transport Minister, Steffen Bilger, explicitly pointed out that the system does not provide fully autonomous driving capabilities, despite its name suggesting otherwise. The technology is capable of controlling steering, acceleration, braking, and navigation, but it still requires drivers to stay vigilant and ready to regain control at any moment.
This rebranding initiative is part of Tesla's strategy to secure broad approval across the European Union for its driving technology. The Netherlands has been the first EU nation to sanction the system, with additional countries following suit. As of now, eight EU countries permit its use, with Slovakia anticipated to become the ninth member to do so. However, Tesla must still rally support from the remaining member states.
Having garnered backing from Germany, Tesla is now advocating for a vote scheduled for December to achieve EU-wide approval for its Assisted Driving feature.
