WhatsApp Introduces User Scheduling for Messages in Beta Testing

In an exciting development for messaging enthusiasts, WhatsApp has initiated testing for a scheduled messages feature, which has reportedly been in the works for several months. This functionality is currently accessible to a select group of users enrolled in the beta program for WhatsApp available on the Google Play Store for Android devices.

With this new feature, users can easily schedule messages to be sent at a predetermined date and time, catering to both individual conversations and group chats. A key advantage of this feature is its ability to deliver messages promptly even when the user’s device is offline at the scheduled time.

The scheduling capability currently accommodates various content types, including text, links, photos, and videos. However, users can only schedule one image or video per message at this time. Importantly, these scheduled messages maintain the same level of security as all other communications on WhatsApp, being end-to-end encrypted. The broader roll-out of this feature is eagerly anticipated by users.

WhatsApp Message Scheduling Interface

To utilize the scheduling function, users can simply press and hold the send button in a chat to access an interface for choosing the delivery time of their message. Messages can be scheduled for as soon as 10 minutes from the current time, extending up to a two-week timeframe.

Once a message is scheduled, it will appear in a special section within the chat info screen, allowing users to manage or delete their scheduled messages easily before they are sent. Notably, recipients remain unaware that a message is scheduled or if the sender has chosen to remove it prior to sending.

For group messages, WhatsApp will deliver the scheduled content to only those members who were part of the group at the time the message was scheduled. Therefore, any new members who join the group after the message has been scheduled will not receive it.
