Samsung Opts for Smaller Battery Capacity in Galaxy S27 Ultra to Preserve Key Features

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra is generating buzz as details about its specifications begin to emerge. Recent leaks reveal a potential increase in battery capacity compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, it seems that Samsung has made some noteworthy decisions regarding battery size to maintain essential features that define its flagship model.

Back in July, leaks suggested that the Galaxy S27 Ultra would come equipped with a 5,534 mAh battery, offering a typical capacity of 5,700 mAh. This marks a significant step up from the Galaxy S26 Ultra's 5,000 mAh battery, but it may still appear modest compared to the larger capacities boasted by some competitors in the market.

Recent rumors have surfaced, indicating that Samsung tested a prototype of the Galaxy S27 Ultra featuring a hefty 7,000 mAh battery. Despite the impressive capacity, the company ultimately chose to revert to a more conservative range of 5,700 mAh to 6,000 mAh for the final model. According to a tipster on X, one of the key reasons for this decision was the removal of the S Pen in the prototype, a central feature that distinguishes the Ultra series from other models. Designing a smartphone to accommodate a larger battery while retaining the S Pen's space proved challenging.

In addition to the physical constraints, it is reported that Samsung aims to strike a balance between battery capacity and longevity by being judicious with the amount of silicon used in the battery. As a result, while users can expect an increase in battery size compared to previous models, it will not compete directly with the expansive batteries offered by numerous Chinese manufacturers.
