WhatsApp Introduces Dedicated Folder for Business Messages to Reduce Chat Clutter

In an effort to enhance user experience, WhatsApp is set to trial a new organizational feature aimed at streamlining the chat experience for its users. With many individuals overwhelmed by numerous chat threads from large businesses, such as banks and airlines, this new development looks to tackle the clutter directly.

According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a feature that will automatically route messages from large businesses into a designated "Offers & Updates" folder after a specific time frame. This initiative follows a recognition of user concerns regarding the messy state of their main chat list due to the influx of messages from various companies.

WhatsApp is currently experimenting with different time durations for this feature, with a maximum duration of up to 24 hours. Users who prefer to keep business messages in their main chat list will have the option to disable this feature via the app settings. However, customization isn't available, meaning users must choose between the default settings offered by Meta or opting out entirely.

The primary goal of this initiative is to declutter users' main chat lists by relocating messages that typically contain promotional content like discount codes and delivery updates. For the time being, messages from small businesses and personal accounts will remain unaffected, although WhatsApp has indicated that it may consider extending this feature to smaller business messages in the future.
