In a recent development, Qualcomm has officially announced that it will implement a price increase on its Snapdragon chipsets. This decision was revealed by CEO Cristiano Amon during an interview with CNBC, indicating that the new pricing structure will take effect starting September 1.
Amon pointed to rising input costs throughout the chipset manufacturing process as the primary reason for the price hike. Qualcomm's press release emphasized that the company can no longer absorb these increased production costs without passing some of that burden onto its customers.
While Qualcomm did not disclose the exact percentage of the price increase, industry speculation suggests it may be a double-digit rise. As a result, smartphone manufacturers will face an additional challenge in an already difficult market, where soaring memory chip prices are compounded by the impending rise in chipset costs.
