Oklahoma to Join States Offering Digital Driver's Licenses on Apple Wallet

In a significant move towards digital identification, Oklahoma is set to allow iPhone and Apple Watch users to integrate their driver's licenses and state IDs into the Apple Wallet app. This advancement follows the passage of a House bill earlier this year that supports the issuance of mobile versions of state IDs and driver's licenses.

Apple is already in the process of enabling this feature within its backend systems, marking a pivotal step for residents in Oklahoma. The bill, passed in March, empowers Service Oklahoma to issue these digital IDs, which serve as a supplemental option rather than a replacement for physical licenses.

These digital IDs will be recognized at select TSA checkpoints and various business locations, and they can also be utilized in apps that require ID verification for services and purchases. It’s important for Oklahomans to note that while these digital options will offer convenience, carrying the physical versions will still be necessary.

Oklahoma joins a growing list of states that are embracing this technology, including Connecticut, Kentucky, Mississippi, Utah, and Virginia, which have been identified in Apple's backend as upcoming adopters. Meanwhile, states like Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and West Virginia have already rolled out similar digital license capabilities.
