Oppo Reno16 Series: Are Premium Prices Justified for Mid-Range Phones?

Source: Date:

The smartphone market faces challenges, and the recent launch of Oppo's Reno16 series provides insight into potential hurdles. While both models offer solid mid-range capabilities, their flagship-level pricing may hinder sales performance.

The standard Reno16 is particularly at risk. Despite sharing hardware similarities with the Pro variant, its Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor and basic 50MP main camera do not justify a price tag of €900 (or even €800, the discounted rate available throughout July).

In comparison, the Reno16 Pro performs slightly better. Some users favor it over the standard model due to its more powerful Dimensity 8550 chipset and superior 200MP main camera sensor.

However, the results from last week’s poll indicated a divide among respondents. Many expressed the desire for an affordable mid-range device, while others preferred to invest in a flagship model. The Reno16 Pro carries a manufacturer's suggested retail price of €1,100, although it is currently available for €900 for the 12GB/512GB configuration.

The future of flagship pricing remains uncertain, but many 2026 models are already priced around €1,000, with some 2025 flagships still available, albeit in limited quantities. At this juncture, these flagship offerings present a more sensible investment.
