Google Wallet Introduces Package Tracking Feature

Source: Date:

While not the most common integration, Google Wallet's new package tracking feature is a noteworthy addition. This isn't the first time Google has explored package tracking; the now-retired Google Now, which transformed into the Google Discover feed, once offered similar functionality.

Google Wallet can now track your packages

The mechanism is straightforward: Google scans your Gmail inbox to identify digital receipts and tracking numbers, allowing it to display package tracking information within the Google Wallet interface. Packages set to arrive soon are conveniently showcased on the home screen, alongside your payment methods. Users can view detailed tracking data and dismiss packages once delivered; the system presumably handles automatic dismissal at some point as well. Notably, this feature does not interfere with the package-related emails in Gmail.

However, there are some limitations to keep in mind. Currently, the package tracking feature is only available in the United States. While Google claims it supports most major retailers and their email formats, it may not work for all purchases from smaller stores. Additionally, to enable this feature, users must navigate to their Gmail settings and ensure that "Google Workspace smart features" are turned on.
