Insider Report: Merging OxygenOS, Realme UI, and ColorOS into One Operating System

Source: Date:

In 2021, Pete Lau announced the merger of OxygenOS and ColorOS, indicating that OnePlus devices would no longer operate on a distinct software branch from Oppo. Now, an informed insider suggests that the company is poised to complete this transition by also merging Realme UI.

This consolidation will unify the three previously independent brands under the ColorOS software umbrella, ultimately reducing research and development costs. This initiative forms part of a broader strategy aimed at streamlining operations.

Recent developments reveal that OnePlus Germany is advocating for users to migrate to Oppo devices, while OnePlus UK is experiencing widespread product stock shortages. According to the insider, OnePlus plans to concentrate its efforts solely on the Indian and Chinese markets, indicating a phased withdrawal from other regions. Notably, after-sales support for OnePlus users in India has already transitioned to Oppo.

Coming Together: ColorOS, OxygenOS, and Realme UI

Meanwhile, Realme is set to exit the Chinese market to concentrate on international opportunities. Although rumors of a merger between OnePlus and Realme abound, it appears India will be the only market where their paths visibly intersect; elsewhere, the implications of such a merger remain minimal.

What does this mean for the US market, which mainly comprises Apple, Samsung, and Motorola? The future is uncertain—will Oppo withdraw entirely from this market, or are they planning to promote Oppo-branded devices? Historically, Oppo has been a forgotten name in the US market, having previously manufactured DVD and Blu-ray players. OnePlus, with a market share of under 1% in the US, has similarly struggled to establish itself.
