The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro, despite its lengthy name, is poised to be one of the most powerful Android tablets of 2026. As a successor to last year’s RedMagic Astra, this new model is equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, configurable with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB UFS 4.1 Pro storage.

Initially launching in China, the tablet will later be available internationally as the RedMagic Astra 2.

It features a 9.06-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2.4K (1,504 x 2,400 pixels) and boasts a faster 185Hz refresh rate, an upgrade from the 165Hz found on the first-generation Astra. To minimize latency, RedMagic utilizes a Synaptics S3930 touch controller that supports a 300Hz touch sampling rate.

The device also includes RedMagic’s proprietary RedCore R4 gaming chip and features an improved active liquid cooling system visible on the back. True to its gaming heritage, the tablet incorporates RGB lighting as well.

A notable addition is the PC emulator with Steam support. This custom translation layer integrated within the Game Space app allows x86 applications and games to run seamlessly on the tablet. According to RedMagic, users can enjoy titles at resolutions up to 2K and refresh rates of 144Hz.

Additionally, the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro/Astra 2 is equipped with an 8,300mAh battery and supports 80W fast charging. A second USB-C port allows for peripheral connections and charging. Only the main USB-C port at the bottom of the device supports the full 80W charging speed under the USB 3.2 specification.
