The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro may have an unwieldy name, but it ranks among the most advanced Android tablets expected in 2026. As the successor to last year's RedMagic Astra, this device boasts the cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, configurable with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 Pro storage.

Initially launching in China, it will later be available internationally as the RedMagic Astra 2.

The tablet features a spacious 9.06-inch OLED display with a 2.4K resolution (1,504 x 2,400 pixels) and an enhanced refresh rate of 185Hz, an upgrade from the 165Hz offered by its predecessor. To maintain low latency, RedMagic has integrated a Synaptics S3930 touch controller, which supports a 300Hz touch sampling rate.

The device is equipped with RedMagic's proprietary RedCore R4 gaming chip and a revamped active liquid cooling system that is visible on the back. Staying true to its gaming roots, the tablet also features RGB lighting.

An exciting new feature is the integration of a PC emulator with Steam support. This custom translation layer, part of the Game Space app, allows x86 applications and games to run on the tablet. RedMagic claims that users can enjoy titles at resolutions of up to 2K and a refresh rate of 144Hz.

Additionally, the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro/Astra 2 comes with an 8,300mAh battery supporting 80W fast charging. A new second USB-C port enhances connectivity options for charging and peripherals. However, only the main USB-C port at the bottom of the device adheres to the USB 3.2 standard, allowing for the maximum 80W charging speed.

The RedMagic Gaming Tablet 5 Pro is available in Silver Wing and Dark Night colors, starting at approximately $736 (€645 converted) for the 12/256GB model in China, and reaching up to CNY 6,999 (around $1,030/€904 converted) for the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage configuration. The first shipments in China are scheduled for July 7.
