With the release of macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple officially ends support for Macs powered by Intel processors. This latest iteration of the company's desktop operating system exclusively supports devices equipped with M and A-series chips. Similar to iOS 27, a significant feature is the introduction of the standalone Siri AI app, along with enhanced Apple Intelligence capabilities.

The Siri app now features personal context awareness, system-wide app support, and Visual Intelligence, allowing it to identify items displayed on your screen. Additionally, Apple has introduced the “Type to Siri” feature, enabling users to enter prompts directly into Spotlight search, which sports a new interface.

The new Siri app will be available for Macs with the M1 chip and later models, including the MacBook Neo (A18 Pro). However, advanced on-device Apple Intelligence features and customization options will be exclusive to Macs with the M3 chip or newer, requiring at least 12GB of unified memory.
Apple has also noted several other enhancements within Golden Gate. It promises system-level improvements, such as faster AirDrop transfers, improved file browsing speeds, and quicker load times in Safari.

Visually, Apple has refined its Liquid Glass design to enhance readability throughout the OS while maintaining uniformity in toolbars and menu items. A new slider option allows users to control the opacity effect across the entire user interface. Furthermore, Apple confirmed compatibility with 5K/120Hz ultrawide displays.

The developer beta for macOS 27 Golden Gate is now available, with a public beta expected to launch in July, ahead of the final release slated for September.
