Approximately a year ago, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 15S Pro, its first smartphone powered by an in-house chipset known as the Xring O1. This device was a variant of the Xiaomi 15 Pro, which initially operated on a Snapdragon 8 Elite. According to reports from Yogesh Brar, Xiaomi appears to be planning a similar move this year.
There are rumors of a variant of the Xiaomi 18 Ultra that will utilize the Xring O3 chipset. This next-generation model is expected to be released in December. However, Brar indicates that the Xring-based version will not have a global release and will only be available in China.
Insights on the Xring O3 (Lhasa)
Recent reports from Ximitime have revealed intriguing details about the Xring O3, code-named “Lhasa.” Xiaomi has revamped the CPU architecture and increased the GPU clock speed.
The Xring O1 featured a unique four-tier CPU structure, consisting of two Cortex-X925 cores, two Cortex-A725 cores, four lower-clocked A725 cores, and two Cortex-A520 cores. These clusters were categorized as “prime,” “titanium,” “big,” and “little.”
For the Xring O3, Xiaomi will eliminate the “big” tier. However, the “little” tier will assume the responsibilities of the “big” tier based on the anticipated clock speeds. Below is a comparison:
| Xring O1 | Xring O3 | |
|---|---|---|
| Prime | 2x Cortex-X925 3.89GHz | 4.05GHz |
| Titanium | 2x Cortex-A725 3.39GHz | 3.43GHz |
| Big | 4x Cortex-A725 1.89GHz | - |
| Little | 2x Cortex-A520 1.79GHz | 3.02GHz |
| GPU | Immortalis-G925 MP16 1.2GHz | 1.5GHz |
| DDR | 9,600MT/s | 9,600MT/s |
Notably, the new “prime” cores are expected to exceed the 4GHz mark. Additionally, the “little” cores will operate at significantly higher speeds compared to the previous “big” and “little” cores.
Furthermore, Xiaomi plans to boost GPU speed by 0.3GHz, representing a 25% increase. While the specific GPU design is still unknown, it is likely to feature an ARM Mali G1-Ultra, which is the successor to the G925. Similarly, the CPU cores are expected to be ARM C1 cores. The RAM speed, however, will remain unchanged.
A recent leak suggested that the Xring O3 may debut with the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5, anticipated to launch in August. Expanding the use of its in-house chipset across more devices is significant, as the Xring O1 was only included in the Xiaomi 15S Pro and two tablets: the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra and Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro 12.5.
