Today, Nothing introduced Essential Voice, a speech-to-text engine designed to provide "clear, ready-to-send text in real time." This innovation aims to enhance traditional dictation methods, which often include filler words, stutters, and grammatical errors.
Essential Voice offers the "speed and ease of talking with the clarity and flexibility of text," effectively eliminating unnecessary filler words for a cleaner output. The tool can auto-detect over 100 languages and allows users to select regional dialects for languages such as English and Spanish. Additionally, it has the capability to translate spoken words during transcription.
The technology also supports shortcuts for frequently used terms or specific phrases. Users can configure it to transform "nothing os" into "Nothing OS" automatically or link an address to a favorite restaurant’s name. Moreover, it can send transcripts to an email upon verbal request, provided users set this functionality in advance.
Nothing assures users that Essential Voice only activates on command and does not listen in the background. Once activated, audio recordings are encrypted and processed on Nothing's servers. The generated text is sent back to the user's device, with no data stored on the company's servers.
Essential Voice is currently available on the Nothing Phone (3), with plans to roll out to the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro later this month and the Nothing Phone (4a) in early May. It seamlessly integrates into the built-in keyboard and the Essential Key.
