Google Introduces "Take a Message" Voicemail Feature to Pixel 6 and Newer Models
Google is extending its innovative "Take a Message" voicemail feature, originally available on the Pixel 10 series, to Pixel 6 and newer models. This advanced service revolutionizes traditional voicemail by allowing users to interact with their messages as if they were live conversations.
Transforming Voicemail with AI Technology
Compatible Pixel models from the 6 series onward now benefit from the "Take a Message" feature, equipped with Custom Greetings. When a call is missed or declined, an AI-driven process begins, transcribing the caller's message in real-time directly on your screen. Users can see the dialogue evolve as the AI asks the caller who they are and the purpose of their call.
As the messages are transcribed in real-time, users can decide whether to join the conversation based on the incoming information. If the call proves important, a simple tap on the "Answer" button allows you to engage immediately.
Customizable Greetings Enhance User Experience
Utilizing the same technology as the "Call Screen" feature, "Take a Message" effectively filters out spam calls, ensuring a neat inbox. The recently added Custom Greetings feature allows users to record personalized voicemail messages up to 60 seconds long, replacing the generic Google Assistant voice automatically used initially. You can create several greetings to choose from and set your preferred one as the default.
Step-by-Step: How to Record Custom Greetings
If you've received the update, the first time you open your Phone app, a notification will prompt you to try out the new feature. By tapping the button, you can listen to the standard greeting as well as record your own. Following the provided instructions, a countdown will guide you into your recording.
If you want to revisit or alter the greeting in the future, simply open the Phone app, tap the three-line icon near the search bar, and navigate to Settings > Take a Message > Manage greetings.
Expansion of Features to Older Models
Google has made commendable strides in backporting features to older Pixel models. Previously, attempts to introduce "Take a Message" to the Pixel 4 and 5 faced issues related to privacy, highlighting the importance of seamless AI performance. Fortunately, the new backporting of Custom Greetings extends this innovative feature down to the Pixel 6 series and beyond.

Looking Ahead: Potential New Features for Pixel Users
As Google continues to enhance user experience, some users are hopeful for the backporting of other functionalities, such as the innovative "Magic Cue" feature. While it’s unlikely that this capability will be available for the older Pixel devices due to hardware limitations, users eagerly anticipate future upgrades on newer models.
