In a significant shift for smartphone users, Samsung has announced the impending discontinuation of its default messaging application, Samsung Messages. This decision aligns with the trend of newer Samsung devices, which now come pre-loaded with Google Messages as the primary texting platform.
According to an official notice on Samsung's website, the Samsung Messages app will cease operations in July 2026. The tech giant is advising its users to transition to Google Messages to ensure uninterrupted messaging services.
For users concerned about the timeline, Samsung has recommended checking the Messages app for the specific discontinuation date. Importantly, devices operating on Android 11 or earlier will remain unaffected by this change and will continue to support the Samsung Messages app.
The latest Samsung Galaxy S25 series, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, and newer models, ship with Google Messages set as the default application. Samsung initiated the gradual replacement of its Messages app starting with the Galaxy S22 series released in the United States.
