Enhanced Review Search Comes to Google Play Store

Source: Date:

Google has introduced an upgraded functionality to the Android Google Play Store that could significantly enhance how users interact with app reviews. Now, when browsing reviews for apps or games, users will find a convenient search bar that allows for quick keyword searches among all available reviews. This feature is particularly useful when users are trying to determine if an app includes specific functionalities or behaves in certain ways.

New Keyword Search Feature in Google Play Store Reviews

This search bar has been in testing since November and is now rolling out to all users with the latest Play Store update. Google's updates often take time to reach every device, so if you don’t see it immediately, rest assured it will be available for you shortly. To expedite the update, users can check for the latest version by navigating to the Play Store, tapping their profile picture, then going to Settings > About > Update Play Store to verify they have version 50.7.24-31.

To utilize the search functionality, simply tap on the ratings at the top of any app and select “See all reviews.” The search bar will appear at the top for instant access. Alternatively, you can scroll down to the Reviews and ratings section and click on the magnifying glass icon located beneath the AI-generated summary. However, it's important to note that the search engine requires at least two words to return results, a limitation that users hope will be addressed in future iterations of the feature.

While the search does not auto-populate results as you type, it does provide suggestions for popular queries underneath the search bar. Currently, the search function only retrieves reviews that match the entered terms exactly, which is a useful starting point but leaves room for improvements such as semantic search capabilities.
