Galaxy S26 Faces Battery Challenges with Exynos 2600 Chipset in Latest Tests

Source: Date:

Introduction

The ongoing rivalry between Samsung's Exynos and Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipsets takes center stage once again as the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ launch in various markets with differing hardware. With the Exynos 2600 powering most global models and the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reserved for the US and China, recent tests reveal significant disparities in battery performance that may influence consumer choices.

In an insightful comparison by Android Addicts, both models underwent rigorous battery drain tests to assess their real-world performance. The findings highlight a stark difference in operational efficiency between the Exynos and Snapdragon variants, raising concerns for potential buyers.

The Galaxy S26 models tested were identical in specifications, featuring 4,300mAh batteries, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Both devices were connected to the same 5G network, with Wi-Fi disabled to ensure consistency in testing conditions.

The battery drain test commenced with a 1-hour voice call, during which the Snapdragon variant experienced only a 3% battery drop, whereas the Exynos model lost an additional percent. The tests continued with a 30-minute 4K30 video recording that the Exynos version could not complete due to overheating issues.

As the testing proceeded, the Exynos-equipped device consistently exhibited higher battery consumption across various applications, including Google Maps and social media platforms such as TikTok and X. In addition to performance discrepancies, the Exynos variant also ran noticeably hotter compared to its Snapdragon counterpart.

Ultimately, the Exynos 2600-powered Galaxy S26 shut down after 6 hours and 48 minutes of use, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 variant continued to operate for an additional 2 hours and 38 minutes, signifying that the Snapdragon model lasted nearly 39% longer than its Exynos counterpart.
