Unveiling the Galaxy S26 Ultra: A Closer Look at the Innovative 5x Telephoto Camera

Source: Date:

The Galaxy S26 Ultra may initially appear to be a minor upgrade from its predecessor, but Samsung has introduced a groundbreaking periscope camera sensor design that deserves noteworthy attention. Fortunately, Zack Nelson, known as JerryRigEverything, provides an in-depth teardown video showcasing the S26 Ultra’s impressive new ALoP 5x periscope.

The All Lenses on Prism (ALoP) design was unveiled by Samsung’s imaging division in 2024. This innovative approach allows for more compact periscope sensors by positioning the lens array directly on top of the prism, rather than between the image sensor and the prism as seen in traditional periscope modules.

The assembly can be viewed at the 8:00 mark in the video and is quite remarkable. Samsung’s ALoP design is 22% shorter than standard periscopes and features a wider f/2.9 aperture, which captures 37% more light compared to the f/3.4 opening of the S25 Ultra.
