Shortly after the New Year, Oppo introduced three models of the Reno15 series globally, including in India. I had the opportunity to explore all three variants, though regional naming differences exist. Globally, they are branded as the Reno15, Reno15 Pro, and Reno15 Pro Max.
Here, we focus on the standard model, the Oppo Reno15, which features a 6.59-inch display. This size positions it between the 6.32-inch Pro and Pro Mini and the larger 6.78-inch Pro Max. Notably, it shares the same robust 6,500mAh battery with the Pro Max variant.
The Reno15 family: Reno15 Pro (left), Reno15 (center), and Reno15 Pro Max (right)As the base model, the Reno15 is equipped with a 50MP main camera, utilizing a Sony IMX882 sensor behind an f/1.8 lens with OIS capable of recording 4K video at 60fps. However, it features a lesser ultra-wide camera with an 8MP OV08D sensor, compared to the 50MP offered in the Pro models.
In terms of telephoto and selfie cameras, the Reno15 shines with a 3.5x/80mm telephoto module equipped with a 50MP Samsung JN5 sensor alongside an f/2.8 OIS lens, which mirrors the capabilities of the Pro devices. The selfie camera, also a 50MP JN5, includes the same 100° ultra-wide lens and supports 4K video at 60fps.
The Reno15 is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, which cannot compete with the Dimensity 8450 found in its Pro counterparts. In fact, it may even underperform relative to the previous Reno14's Dimensity 8350, a concern we will investigate more closely in future analyses. Nonetheless, all variants provide non-expandable UFS 3.1 storage options of 256GB or 512GB.
Oppo Reno15Our testing unit is in the Glacier White color, featuring a special coating that gives it a glossy, ceramic-like finish. This is complemented by a subtly textured glass surface that reveals itself from certain angles.
The device boasts an aerospace-grade aluminum frame, measuring 7.7mm in thickness and weighing 197g. The Aurora Blue model is slightly thicker at 0.2mm due to a distinct coating.
Additionally, the USB-C port has been treated with a platinum coating for corrosion resistance. The Reno15 is rated for IP66 against splashes, IP68 for submersion, and IP69 for protection against high-pressure water jets. However, it does not include a headphone jack; instead, it features stereo speakers.
Oppo Reno15All Reno15 models implement optical under-display fingerprint sensors, which we found to be quick and reliable in our initial testing. The device includes three side buttons: a volume rocker and a responsive power button.
With a battery capacity of 6,500mAh, the Reno15 supports 80W fast charging with the included SuperVOOC charger, promising a full charge in just 50 minutes. However, it's uncertain whether the charger will be available in all markets. Using a USB PPS charger enables charging at a rate of up to 55W, an upgrade from the Reno14’s 80W SuperVOOC, which limited PPS charging to 33W.
We are particularly excited to explore ColorOS 16, which features O+ Connect for seamless file transfers and remote control of Windows PCs and Apple devices (iOS, iPadOS, and macOS). Oppo has committed to providing five major updates for ColorOS and six years of security patches for the Reno15.
Now that we have the Reno15 in our office, we will delve deeper into testing its capabilities. This device marks just one of the exciting new products from Oppo—stay tuned for further updates.
