BYD is a company that rarely remains idle for long. Just as consumers are growing accustomed to its current lineup of electric vehicles, the Chinese automaker is introducing notable upgrades. The latest to receive a significant hardware enhancement is the BYD Sealion 06. Since its launch in July 2025, this all-electric SUV has garnered positive acclaim, but the new version is set to deliver even greater performance and efficiency.
The most significant upgrade in this refreshed model is the substantial boost in power. The existing Sealion 06 offers motor outputs of either 170 kW (228 hp) or 180 kW (241 hp). The new iteration elevates these figures dramatically, featuring an output of 270 kW, which equates to 362 horsepower. This increase of 90 kW (121 hp) over the base model is substantial.

While speed is a key aspect, range remains a primary consideration for electric vehicle buyers. BYD addresses “range anxiety” by replacing the previous batteries with larger, more efficient options. The earlier battery packs were 65.28 kWh and 78.72 kWh; the new Sealion 06 introduces two updated “Blade” battery choices.
These lithium iron phosphate (LFP) packs are available in sizes of 75.616 kWh and 82.732 kWh, yielding driving ranges of 385 miles and 441 miles respectively, based on China's optimistic testing standards. Although real-world figures may be slightly lower, a range of 441 miles is a significant achievement for a family SUV.

However, enhanced battery capacity does introduce an increase in weight. The new battery packs weigh 1,187.4 lb and 1,259.5 lb. Consequently, the total curb weight of the vehicle rises to 4,497 lb for the smaller battery and 4,586 lb for the larger one. Despite the added weight, the upgraded motor is expected to maintain dynamic performance.
While the interior mechanics are being upgraded, the exterior design remains unchanged. BYD opted to retain the effective “Ocean aesthetics” design language. The Sealion 06 continues to measure 15.78 ft in length, 6.3 ft in width, and 5.48 ft in height, with a wheelbase of 9.25 ft, providing ample space for passengers. The front grille retains its closed design, complemented by the signature “interstellar loop” taillights.
Sales figures reveal that consumers are resonating with this model. In November alone, BYD sold 35,081 units of the Sealion 06, including both fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions. This marked the fourth consecutive month of sales exceeding 30,000 units, with this model representing 15% of total sales in BYD's “Ocean” series for that month. Since its debut in mid-2025, the Sealion 06 has attracted 134,665 owners.
Pricing plays a crucial role in this success. Currently, the electric variants are priced between RMB 143,800 and RMB 163,800, approximately $20,600 to $23,400. Although the exact pricing for the upgraded 441-mile version is not yet available, BYD is known for maintaining competitive pricing.
