During its tenth-anniversary celebration in Hangzhou, Chinese automotive manufacturer Leapmotor showcased its latest flagship models. Among them is the D99, the brand's inaugural multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). At this event, the company also revealed additional details about the D19, a spacious family SUV first introduced in October.

The Leapmotor D99 is designed for comfort, measuring over 17.1 ft in length and nearly 7 ft in width. The wheelbase exceeds 10.2 ft, providing ample legroom for passengers. Its exterior boasts a contemporary look, featuring a two-tone paint scheme and distinctive “Aspiration” 19-inch wheels. The rear of the vehicle is equipped with a large door for convenient loading, accompanied by a light display capable of showcasing various patterns.

With safety and technology at the forefront, the D99 features a robust body designed to protect passengers in the event of a crash. It incorporates an advanced smart driving system powered by two high-performance Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chips, which utilize a visual-language system to comprehend the vehicle's surroundings. Additionally, a LiDAR system mounted on the roof enhances the car's ability to navigate road conditions and detect other vehicles.

Leapmotor offers two powertrain options for the D99. The first is a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version, powered exclusively by a substantial 115 kWh battery from CATL. This version employs a 1000V system, enabling rapid charging. The second option is an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV), which incorporates a small engine that functions as a generator to recharge the battery while driving. The EREV features an 80.3 kWh battery, the largest ever installed in this vehicle category in China.

The Leapmotor D19 SUV also plays a crucial role in the company’s future. It is set to officially launch in April 2026, offering both BEV and EREV options. The all-electric D19 can achieve a range of up to 447 miles on a single charge, while the range extender version can cover 311 miles on battery power before the generator takes over. Inside, families have options as the D19 is available with either six or seven seats.

Leapmotor has experienced rapid growth over the past decade, selling over 70,000 vehicles in November alone. By the end of 2025, the company anticipates nearly 600,000 sales for the year. Currently, Leapmotor operates in 35 countries outside of China and aims to sell one million vehicles in 2026. With the launch of the D99 and D19, the company is transitioning from compact cars to luxury family vehicles.
