Recent information from an official support page in Hindi reveals that Google may soon enable users to change the email address linked to their Google accounts. However, this feature will be rolled out gradually, so it may not be available to everyone right away.
According to the support documentation, Google will permit users to change their associated email address once every 12 months. However, this process will function more like adding a new alias rather than completely replacing the existing email address. The original email will remain operational, allowing users to retain a single inbox and outbox, while offering filtering options based on which address received a specific message. Furthermore, users will be able to select which email address they wish to use for outgoing communications. Essentially, users can associate up to three new email addresses with their current account, maintaining access to all existing data and services. The possibility of merging other accounts into a primary one remains uncertain.

This development could prove intriguing, especially since many users manage multiple Google accounts for various reasons. Commonly, users may maintain several email addresses for different communication channels. While Gmail has not officially endorsed this practice, it does offer advanced features like server-side email filtering and conditional forwarding, albeit buried in legacy settings. This forthcoming change could enhance already complex email setups, with interesting implications for managed accounts, such as those on school-issued Chromebooks.
However, there are several restrictions and considerations: users can only add three new email addresses, with the option to change them occurring once a year, leading to a maximum of four addresses. Additionally, once an email is added, it cannot be deleted. It remains unclear whether this feature will extend to Google Workspace accounts with custom email domains, indicating that many questions still need to be answered regarding this rollout.
