Google to Allow Users to Add and Manage Multiple Email Addresses on One Account

Source: Date:

Google is reportedly introducing a new feature that lets users add and manage multiple email addresses within a single Google account. According to an official support page in Hindi, this feature will roll out gradually, so it may not be available to all users immediately.

The process allows users to add up to three new email aliases to their existing account—effectively enabling one email address change every 12 months. Importantly, the original email remains active and is not deleted. Users will continue to use a single inbox and outbox but can filter incoming messages based on which email address they were sent to and select which alias to use for outgoing mail.

Google might let users change the email address associated with their account

This update could simplify managing multiple email accounts, especially for those who use separate Google accounts for different purposes. While Gmail has traditionally supported server-side filtering and conditional forwarding, this new capability offers more direct control over email aliases, potentially enhancing workflows and organizational options. It may also have interesting applications for managed Google accounts, such as those on school Chromebooks.

There are some limitations to note. Users can add up to three new addresses (one per year), resulting in a maximum of four linked email aliases. Currently, deleting any associated email address is not possible. Additionally, it remains unclear how this feature will interact with Google Workspace accounts that use custom domains instead of @google.com addresses. Many details are yet to be confirmed.
