Huawei, the technology giant, and GAC Group, a prominent state-owned automaker, have unveiled their first collaborative venture: the Qijing brand. Their debut model is a sporty electric shooting brake—a sleek, performance-driven station wagon—marking an ambitious effort to combine cutting-edge technology with traditional automotive manufacturing.

Departing from the common sedan or SUV design, the Qijing shooting brake adopts a dynamic, athletic profile. It features a sloped hood, a prominent front bumper air intake, and 20-inch ten-spoke wheels. Flush door handles enhance aerodynamic efficiency, aligning with a rising trend in China where consumers increasingly favor sporty wagons over bulkier SUVs. The model will compete with stylish electric vehicles like the Zeekr 001 and Nio ET5 Touring.

The vehicle integrates Huawei’s Qiankun intelligent driving system, highlighted by a rooftop LiDAR sensor that provides advanced environmental perception. The car is rated as "Level 3 ready," enabling it to autonomously manage many driving tasks under certain conditions, while requiring the driver’s readiness to assume control if necessary.

Though specific battery capacities remain undisclosed, the Qijing shooting brake employs an 800V high-voltage architecture, facilitating ultra-fast charging—an essential feature for reducing downtime. During recent road tests, executives from both Huawei and GAC praised the vehicle’s handling and driving dynamics, emphasizing that it offers much more than just advanced technology.

Notably, the pricing strategy is aggressive. Despite delivering features and performance comparable to luxury models priced around RMB 1 million (~€120,000), such as the Yangwang U8, the Qijing is expected to retail for approximately RMB 300,000 (~€36,400). This approach aims to provide a premium experience at a mid-market price point, targeting buyers currently loyal to established brands.
