Following the European Union's lead, Brazil has become the latest country to compel Apple to open its iOS ecosystem beyond the App Store. Apple has agreed to let iPhone users in Brazil download and purchase apps and digital services from outside the official App Store.

This decision comes after Apple's negotiation with Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense, which had been investigating the company over restrictive app distribution practices. The Council has now approved Apple's proposed measures, giving the company 105 days to implement the changes on iOS within Brazil.

Apple will let iPhone users in Brazil get apps and services outside of the App Store

Under this binding agreement, valid for three years, developers will be permitted to process payments outside the App Store, and third-party app stores will be allowed on iOS devices in Brazil. The investigation began in December 2022, highlighting the extensive timeframe required to reach this resolution.
