T-Mobile’s Device Protection Costs Set to Rise in March Amid Pricing Adjustments

Starting in March, some T-Mobile customers may notice higher charges for the company’s Protection 360 (P360) device insurance program. According to recent reports, T-Mobile plans to increase rates for certain device categories while also adjusting deductible costs.

T-Mobile is reportedly set to raise P360 rates for some devices but may also lower deductibles on certain claims, such as rear glass damage and device loss. This means customers filing claims for those issues could potentially pay less overall despite the price increase.

Assessing the Bigger Picture

This upcoming adjustment follows a series of price hikes across T-Mobile’s services within the past year. In March, the carrier increased plan prices, followed by a regulatory fee increase in April affecting both voice and data lines. Additionally, in November, T-Mobile raised its late payment fees and removed taxes and fees from advertised plan prices, leading customers to pay more than the listed amounts.

Why T-Mobile Feels Comfortable Raising Rates

Despite its Un-carrier branding, T-Mobile’s strong market position has shifted its approach. The carrier no longer needs to focus heavily on aggressive pricing tactics that helped it grow. Leading the industry in 5G deployment and simplifying the switching process, T-Mobile is rumored to have surpassed Verizon as the largest wireless provider by subscriber count. This dominant stance likely gives the company the confidence to increase rates on device protection.
