Xiaomi Watch 5 Launch: EMG Sensor and Snapdragon W5 Chipset Debut This Week

Source: Date:

The Xiaomi 17 Ultra smartphone will be unveiled on December 25, accompanied by the launch of the Xiaomi Watch 5. This upcoming smartwatch represents Xiaomi's most premium wearable to date, featuring a stainless steel case and a sapphire crystal screen—materials typically found in high-end analog watches.

The Xiaomi Watch 5 will introduce an electromyography (EMG) sensor that detects electrical signals generated by muscle activity. This technology may enable gesture-based navigation, such as wrist flicks or finger taps in the air. Additionally, the EMG sensor could help analyze muscle fatigue for improved health monitoring.

Powered by the Snapdragon W5 chipset, the Xiaomi Watch 5 will run on HyperOS. It remains unclear whether HyperOS will be a layer atop Google’s Wear OS or a proprietary Xiaomi operating system. The watch will be available with three strap options: leather, steel, and rubber/silicone.

While an international release is not confirmed, it is expected that the Xiaomi Watch 5 might launch outside China alongside the Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
