Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 to Feature Two Significant Camera Enhancements

Source: Date:

After the Galaxy Z Fold 7 dramatically increased its main camera resolution from 50MP to an impressive 200MP, Samsung fans didn’t anticipate many further photographic improvements for the next foldable iteration. However, recent insights from GalaxyClub reveal that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 will introduce two notable camera upgrades that could refine its overall imaging experience.

Primary Camera Remains the Same, But Other Lenses Get Upgrades

While the 200MP primary sensor will remain unchanged—a development aligned with expectations given the technical limitations and timeline—the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is set to boost two other key cameras. Most notably, the ultra-wide lens, which was 12MP on the Fold 7, may jump to an impressive 50 megapixels. This upgrade aligns with Samsung’s strategy seen on devices like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which utilizes a high-resolution ultra-wide snapper for sharper, more detailed wide-angle shots.

Additionally, the foldable is rumored to receive an upgrade to its telephoto lens, increasing the sensor from 10MP to 12MP. This mirrors what is expected from the Galaxy S26 lineup, though the Z Fold 8 will stop short of adopting the larger 50MP periscope telephoto sensor found in the S25 Ultra and the forthcoming S26 Ultra, preserving some balance between features and pricing.

Front and Cover Cameras Likely Unchanged

On the flip side, the selfie cameras on the Z Fold 8 are expected to stay consistent with the previous generation, retaining their 10MP resolution on both the front-facing and cover cameras. This is slightly underwhelming considering other Samsung models like the Galaxy S25 have moved to 12MP selfie sensors, but it reflects Samsung’s intent to control costs and keep the Z Fold 8’s retail price from exceeding the $2,000 barrier.

Additional Insights & Variants

GalaxyClub also reported intel on a second foldable device codenamed H8, likely a variant in the Galaxy Fold series. This model might feature a wider design reminiscent of Apple’s iPad Mini and will reportedly include the same 50MP ultra-wide camera as the Z Fold 8, but does not currently seem positioned as a more affordable Fan Edition.

Should You Anticipate the Galaxy Z Fold 8?

Beyond the camera improvements, other rumors suggest the Z Fold 8 could sport a larger battery, faster charging, bigger and more immersive screens, a less visible crease, and even bring back the stylus, differentiating it firmly from its predecessor. Considering the substantial praise the Fold 7 received for its design and capabilities—along with robust global sales—the Z Fold 8 looks poised to elevate the foldable experience further.

If Samsung manages to maintain a similar price point while delivering these enhancements, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could well redefine mainstream appeal in the foldable phone market.
