Apple may soon initiate assembly and packaging of iPhone chips in India, according to recent reports. The company is reportedly in early talks with local semiconductor manufacturers to assess this opportunity.
One such company is CG Semi, which is currently developing an outsourced semiconductor assembly and test (OSAT) facility in Gujarat. Apple has reportedly held preliminary discussions with CG Semi regarding potential collaboration.
To date, Apple has not assembled or packaged chips within India. Initial plans suggest that the CG Semi facility could focus on display-related chip production.
If negotiations progress, CG Semi would have to meet Apple's rigorous quality and reliability standards before any partnership can be finalized. Additionally, Apple is reportedly speaking with other companies to explore similar possibilities.
Currently, Apple sources its display driver integrated circuits (DDICs) from suppliers such as Samsung, Himax, LX Semicon, and Novatek, all based in South Korea, Taiwan, or China.
